The Different Types Of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They are a popular alternative to partial dentures.

The replacement tooth or teeth is supported by the neighbouring teeth. A bridge may consist of a ‘pontic’, which is the lifelike false tooth, and crowns or metal supports. 

The type of dental bridge we use will depend on which tooth has been lost and the health of the nearby remaining teeth.

Maryland Dental Bridges

A Maryland bridge doesn’t use dental crowns for support. Instead, the pontic is attached to metal wings, which are fixed behind the neighbouring teeth.

Placing Your Bridge

Once your bridge is ready, we can place it. Under local anaesthetic, we’ll prepare the supporting teeth. If we need to place crowns, we’ll remove a portion of the tooth to make space for them. Next, we’ll bond the crown to the natural tooth.

Once these are firmly in place, we can bond the pontic into position and make any final adjustments.
