Your Perfect Solution for Damaged Or Missing Teeth

A missing or broken tooth can impact your self-esteem, particularly when it’s at the front of your smile. But even losing or damaging less prominent teeth can also majorly affect your life.

The loss of one of your molars makes chewing difficult. You may need to think more about what you’re eating as food can easily become trapped. Losing teeth may mean chewing on the opposite side of your mouth or even avoiding certain foods.

A damaged or missing tooth can also increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Gaps left by teeth are often difficult to clean and may provide the perfect space for bacteria to congregate.

Losing teeth can also mean the rest of your smile may shift. Neighbouring teeth are no longer held in a uniform line, and dental drift will gradually occur.

Crowns and bridges can help. At Milton Keynes Dental Clinic, our experienced team will restore the look and function of your teeth, giving you a smile you can feel good about.

The Different Types Of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are used to cap a damaged tooth or replace it completely when supported by dental implants. We may use a crown to repair and protect a tooth following root canal treatment.

Three materials are used to create crowns. Each has its advantages.

Metal Crowns

Crowns made from a precious metal are cost-effective and hard-wearing. Most people prefer this type of crown when repairing the less visible, hard-working molars at the back of the mouth.

Resin Crowns

While they lack the durability of metal crowns, resin creates a more lifelike appearance. This makes this type of crown ideal for use anywhere in your smile, including on your front teeth.

Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown gives you the best of both worlds. Using porcelain, we’ll create a natural look that is indistinguishable from your other teeth. Additionally, these crowns are more durable than resin.

The Benefits Of Dental Crowns

Restoring Your Smile

Even if the rest of your smile looks perfect, a broken tooth is often all you’ll see when you look in the mirror. Dental crowns rebuild your smile and your confidence.

Regaining Tooth Function

If a damaged tooth is ruining mealtimes, repairing it with a dental crown will restore your ability to bite, chew, and enjoy your food again.

Preventing Complications

By repairing a damaged tooth using a crown, we’ll stop bacteria from entering and causing infection. The new surfaces of your tooth will also provide a protective barrier from tooth decay.

The Dental Crown Procedure

Dental crowns are custom-made for your smile. As with many other custom dental treatments, we’ll perform the process in stages.

Your Consultation

We’ll begin by checking if crowns are right for you. After assessing your tooth, we can take all the necessary impressions needed to create your bespoke crown.

Creating Your Crown

Using the specific information gathered at your initial consultation, the skilled lab technicians will turn your replacement crown into a reality.

Placing Your Crown

Once your new crown is ready, we can bond it firmly in position. To ensure you’re comfortable throughout your procedure, we’ll give you an anaesthetic first.

The Different Types Of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They are a popular alternative to partial dentures.

The replacement tooth or teeth is supported by the neighbouring teeth. A bridge may consist of a ‘pontic’, which is the lifelike false tooth, and crowns or metal supports.

The type of dental bridge we use will depend on which tooth has been lost and the health of the nearby remaining teeth.

Traditional Dental Bridges

A traditional bridge is comprised of a pontic supported on either side by dental crowns. The crowns are placed onto healthy teeth, and the pontic is firmly bonded to them.

Cantilever Dental Bridges

If only one adjacent tooth is available for support, we will place a cantilever bridge. This type of bridge relies on a single crown for support.

Maryland Dental Bridges

A Maryland bridge doesn’t use dental crowns for support. Instead, the pontic is attached to metal wings, which are fixed behind the neighbouring teeth.

The Benefits of Bridges

Enjoy Your Favourite Meals Again

A dental bridge lets you bite and chew confidently. Instead of choosing meals based on whether you can eat them with missing teeth, you can pick the options you love.

Smile With Confidence

If you’ve been avoiding smiling, speaking, or laughing because of your missing tooth, fixed bridges fix all of this instantly. Once your bridge is in place, you can love your smile again.

Stop Dental Drift

A bridge doesn’t just restore the look and function of your teeth; it also reduces the risk of complications like tooth decay and dental drift.

Building Your Bridge

Because we’ll tailor your bridge to your smile, we’ll need to see you over several appointments.

Your Smile Assessment

To begin, we’ll invite you to our modern Bletchley clinic to assess your smile. After determining the best treatment option, we’ll put a plan into place and discuss it with you.

Planning and Building Your Bridge

Using digital impressions, our expert lab technicians will create a pontic and crowns that match the colour, texture, and shape of your natural teeth. You’ll love the results.

Placing Your Bridge

Once your bridge is ready, we can place it. Under local anaesthetic, we’ll prepare the supporting teeth. If we need to place crowns, we’ll remove a portion of the tooth to make space for them. Next, we’ll bond the crown to the natural tooth.

Once these are firmly in place, we can bond the pontic into position and make any final adjustments.
